About Us

We Belong to a Story

At Risen Lord, the Bible is important to us. God’s story of grace is told in the Bible, and continues to be told in the stories of our lives. We also value your story; God is at work in you!

In the Bible, there is a story told of two companions walking the road home, burdened by the events of the previous week — Jesus, the person who they thought would change their lives, was crucified. A stranger comes upon them and asks them what they are talking about.  During this conversation, the stranger explains how all the events in God’s story led to this moment. The companions invited the stranger into their home to keep the conversation going over a meal.  Instead of being served the meal, the stranger takes the bread, blesses it, and gives it to the hosts.  Suddenly, they recognize the stranger before them — it is Jesus, and then he vanishes.  In their amazement they say to each other, “Did not our hearts burn when he explained the Scriptures to us?”  (This story is told in the Gospel of Luke, chapter 24)

This story of the risen Lord meeting the two companions on the road shapes who we are as a community of faith.  Risen Lord Lutheran Church is a community of faith who are walking the road, carrying with us our hopes and dreams, but also the unique burdens and struggles we face along the way. You are invited to join us on the road and to experience the promise and presence of Jesus who often surprises us in the story of Scripture and in the breaking of bread.  We are committed to serve, share, learn and accept one another just as we are, as Jesus taught us, walking the road forward together in Christ.

“This life therefore is not righteousness, but growth in righteousness, not health, but healing, not being but becoming, not rest but exercise. We are not yet what we shall be, but we are growing toward it, the process is not yet finished, but it is going on, this is not the end, but it is the road.” – Martin Luther
